With special thanks to journalist Catie Staszak for her live interview with Christoph on the grounds at Wellington.
In today's horse world, we are blessed to witness some of the finest horsemen and -women to ever compete or train. And then there are the legends -- individuals whose talent, expertise, intellect, and instincts are so superb, we consider them living legends.
Christoph Hess is one of them.
And so it was with absolute delight that I learned of his interest in talking with Because of Horses while he was in the States, judging at Wellington. And when the talented journalist and equestrian, Catie Staszak, agreed to chat with Christoph for Because of Horses -- the angels sang.
As a special Because of Horses edition, here is Catie's conversation with Christoph on the grounds at Wellington.
Christoph Hess is an FEI “I” Judge in both Dressage and Eventing, and the German National Federation (the DOKR, which is the equivalent to the USEF), awarded him the title of Professional Riding Instructor. A title that labels him as an international expert and educator of professionals. Christoph currently holds the positions of Head of Instruction and Head of the Personal Members Department at the DOKR, where he’s been employed since 1978. And he is actively involved in the education of judges and instructors both within Germany and around the world. He conducts clinics, workshops, forums, and symposiums for judges, trainers, and riders throughout the international dressage and eventing communities.
Additionally, Christoph is an examiner of judges and trainers at the highest levels of dressage, including seminars and testing sanctioned and sponsored by the FEI (Federation Equestrian International). He has written and co-authored several outstanding books, videos, and articles.
